Food waste reduction

Did you know that approximately 88 million tonnes of food are wasted each year across the European Union alone? This staggering amount is equivalent to about 174 kilograms per person, which means that each European wastes nearly half a kilogram of food every single day.

The financial cost of this waste is immense—estimated at around €143 billion annually—but the environmental cost is even greater, as food waste contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change.

At KTC BV, we are committed to reducing food waste within the food supply chain through two key initiatives. First, we help as many participants in the food supply chain as possible by providing our bespoke distressed cargo solutions, which aim to prevent the unnecessary destruction of food ingredients. Second, we collaborate with food technologists to develop innovative methods for processing distressed cargo, making specific food ingredients reusable within the supply chain.
